HVAC Duct & Pipe RTD Sensor (BMS Compatible)
Efficient building management starts with accurate data. The Hongtai HVAC Temperature Probe series is designed for the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning market. Whether you need to measure the supply air temperature in a small duct or the average temperature across a massive air handling unit (AHU), our sensors deliver the precision required for modern BMS systems.
We offer two distinct mounting styles: the rigid Duct temperature sensor (Flange Mount) for standard measurement, and the flexible Averaging RTD sensor for large ducts where air stratification causes reading errors. All models are available with high-sensitivity Pt1000 elements, making them “Plug & Play” compatible with major controllers like Honeywell, Johnson Controls, and Siemens.

Key Technical Features & Benefits
-
Averaging Technology: In large ducts (e.g., 2m x 2m), air temperature varies from top to bottom. Our Averaging RTD sensor uses a long flexible copper probe (3m or 6m) with a sensing wire distributed along the entire length. This provides a true average reading, preventing energy waste from false data.
-
BMS Compatibility: Native support for Pt1000 and NTC (10k/20k) curves ensures seamless integration with Building Management Systems without signal converters.
-
Easy Installation:
-
Duct: Flange mounting with foam gaskets to prevent air leaks.
-
Pipe: Pipe clamp temperature sensor (Strap-on) fits any pipe diameter without cutting or welding—perfect for retrofit jobs.
-
-
Weatherproof Enclosure: IP65 ABS or Aluminum connection heads protect against condensation and dust in mechanical rooms.

Why use an “Averaging” Sensor?
In a large air duct, the air near the walls is often different from the air in the center due to laminar flow and external heat gain/loss. A single-point probe might read 22°C while the true average is 24°C.
The Averaging RTD acts like a long thermal antenna. It integrates the temperature across the entire cross-section of the duct, giving the BMS the real thermal load value, which allows the fans and valves to operate more efficiently.
FAQ
Q: Will this work with my Johnson Controls system?
A: Most likely. Johnson Controls typically uses Pt1000 or NTC 10k Type II sensors. Please check your controller’s input specification, and we will supply the matching element.
Q: Difference between Duct and Pipe sensors?
A:
-
Duct: Measures Air. Uses a flange to mount on sheet metal.
-
Pipe: Measures Water. Uses a Strap-on clamp (surface) or an Immersion Well (inserted into the liquid).
Q: Is the averaging probe flexible?
A: Yes. It is a soft copper tube. You can snake it in a “W” or “S” pattern across the duct face using the provided mounting clips to cover the maximum area.
