Hot Runner Band Heater (Brass Nozzle Heater with Built-In Thermocouple)
In high-end injection molding, the hot runner system is the most critical and delicate component of the mold. The space inside the mold cavity is extremely confined, yet the temperature of the plastic at the gate must be maintained with absolute precision. The Hongtai Hot runner band heater is engineered specifically for precision mold designers and high-end hot runner manufacturers who cannot afford thermal lag or gate freeze-off.
By seamlessly integrating a highly accurate J-type thermocouple directly into the brass sheath of the heater, this Nozzle heater with thermocouple delivers “Micro-Precision, Maximum Feedback.” It simultaneously provides high-power heating and instantaneous thermal data within microscopic mold clearances, ensuring the polymer remains in the perfect melt condition right up to the injection gate.
1. Micro-Precision, Maximum Feedback
Traditional hot runner setups use a separate heater and a separate external thermocouple. This creates two massive engineering flaws:
First, routing two sets of thick, armored cables through the microscopic channels of a complex multi-cavity mold is a mechanical nightmare.
Second, placing the thermocouple on the outside of the heater or further down the bushing creates severe thermal lag. By the time the external probe detects a temperature drop, the plastic at the gate has already frozen.
Our J-type thermocouple heater solves this by embedding the sensor directly into the brass matrix during the high-pressure sealing process. This guarantees that the PID controller receives the actual temperature of the heater surface instantly, allowing it to pulse power with millisecond accuracy to prevent overheating or freeze-off.
2. Designed for Confined Mold Spaces
Hot runner molding bushings leave virtually no room for bulky heating elements. Our integrated manufacturing process allows us to miniaturize this Hot runner band heater down to an incredibly small footprint.
With ultra-small diameters starting at a minimum of 25mm and heights as low as 25mm, this heater easily slides over precision mold nozzles. Furthermore, the lack of internal voids in the die-cast brass ensures that even in this miniature footprint, the heater can reliably output up to 5 W/cm² of dense thermal energy without burning out.

4. Consolidated Wiring Harness
Routing cables safely out of a hot runner manifold is critical. If a wire is pinched when the mold plates close, the system fails. Because the thermocouple is built directly into our Nozzle heater with thermocouple, we consolidate the wiring into a single, highly flexible egress point. The power leads and the thermocouple leads are bundled together and shielded under one continuous galvanized steel braid. This heavily reduces wire clutter in the mold channels, simplifies installation for toolmakers, and drastically reduces the risk of pinched wires during mold assembly.
5. Target B2B Industry Applications
This J-type thermocouple heater is the thermal engine behind complex molding operations:
-
Hot Runner Systems: Direct heating of sprue bushings and drop nozzles in multi-cavity injection molds.
-
Medical Device Molding: Maintaining ultra-precise temperatures for sensitive medical-grade resins like cyclic olefin copolymers (COC).
-
Thin-Wall Packaging: Ensuring rapid, highly fluid melt injection for high-speed food container molding.
-
Automotive Components: Complex manifold heating for large, multi-gated automotive fascia molds.
6. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Can you install a K-Type thermocouple instead of a J-Type?
A: Yes. While the J-Type (Iron-Constantan) is the standard in the North American and European plastics industries due to its high sensitivity in the 200°C–400°C range, we can seamlessly integrate a K-Type (Chromel-Alumel) thermocouple for Asian machinery or specific OEM requests.
Q: What happens if the built-in thermocouple fails?
A: Because the thermocouple is permanently embedded within the sealed brass matrix to ensure zero thermal lag, it cannot be removed or replaced independently. If the sensor is severed or fails, the entire Hot runner band heater unit must be replaced. Fortunately, our dense wire protection minimizes the risk of mechanical wire shearing.
